Split fees on successful protected sales
Charged only after both parties confirm the in-person handoff and payment is captured. No protected sale, no platform fee. Checkout totals are calculated on the server — this page is an explanation, not a quote that can override Stripe. 6% seller fee (min $0.49, max $4.99) and 4% + $0.49 buyer-protection fee (max $3.99) on successful protected checkout.

What Campus Protected includes
- Buyer authorizes payment on Empeerium.
- The card network holds the funds (they are not captured yet).
- Buyer inspects the item in person at a public campus spot.
- Buyer and seller each confirm the exchange.
- Payment is captured.
- Seller payout is initiated to the connected Stripe account.
- Unconfirmed exchanges expire or can be disputed under the existing cancellation rules.
This is a manual-capture card authorization plus a seller transfer. It is not a legal escrow account and does not cover off-platform payments.
How this differs from social selling
Facebook Marketplace, GroupMe, Instagram, Discord, and similar apps often have more local inventory today. They typically do not combine school-gated access with in-person dual confirmation before capture.
We do not claim a lower fee than every competitor on every price point. Shipping marketplaces add postage, buyer fees, and different dispute rules that are not comparable to a walking-distance handoff.
